DNV GL is the world’s leading shipping classification society, with a presence in more than 100 countries, classing over 11,500 vessels in the global fleet.
DNV GL has been a main sponsor, and firm supporter, of Nor-Shipping for many years. The Nor-Shipping BBQ, always one of the social and networking highlights of ‘Your Arena for Ocean Solutions’, has a long history of being hosted in DNV GL’s scenic grounds at its Høvik headquarters in Oslo.
The importance of bringing the maritime community together, building relationships, sharing knowledge, showcasing innovation, and accessing new business opportunities are some of the reasons for DNV GL’s enduring support for Nor-Shipping.
To find out about DNV GL’s Nor-Shipping 2019 experience we spoke to Anne Moschner, Director Communications, DNV GL – Maritime.

How was your Nor-Shipping 2019 experience?
For DNV GL, Nor-Shipping 2019 was a real success. We had one of our best stands, with a new design, and attendance was very good. We were able to showcase a lot of our new services, sometimes in new ways as well – such as our Digital Journey in VR. In addition, Nor-Shipping provided a great opportunity for our in-house experts to participate in conferences and knowledge sharing events, showcasing we are working to help our customers develop and gain advantage in the marketplace.
What was your own personal highlight from the week?
There are always so many, but the great response we had to the DNV GL Conference last year certainly stands out. We had a new record for participants and the topics presented – the global sulphur cap and alternative fuels – really seemed to resonate with attendees. And of course, the Nor-Shipping BBQ at the DNV GL campus is always a ‘must’… even if the weather doesn’t always come to the party!
Why is Nor-Shipping important to you and your business?
Nor-Shipping is not only our “home turf”, as a Norwegian company, but it also shares the same future focussed approach as DNV GL. We want to be pushing the envelope with new technologies, new ways of working and leading the industry forward. And Nor-Shipping, in addition to being a great space for networking and meeting the most important thought leaders and industry stakeholders, is always looking to showcase the future of shipping.

Why did you feel it was important to sign up for Nor-Shipping 2021 as early as possible?
At DNV GL we are always one of the first to come on board, as we believe it is important to show our support for the foundational events that build shipping’s rich community. Of course, in light of the COVID-19 crisis, the decision to sign up early has taken on greater significance, as our whole industry will be looking to show that we have bounced back from a very challenging time.
What are you most looking forward to at the next Nor-Shipping?
I’m looking forward to seeing a maritime community that has moved past the challenge of the COVID-19 crisis and is vibrant, active and growing again. It will be great to meet up with all the people who we’ve recently only seen on video and showcase the best DNV GL has to offer.
Nor-Shipping is not only our “home turf”, as a Norwegian company, but it also shares the same future focussed approach as DNV GL.
