Per Martin Tanggaard has been confirmed as the permanent Director of Nor-Shipping, after holding the role of Acting Director since August last year.
The move coincides with Nor-Shipping’s decision to focus on creating new ocean opportunities for the maritime industry it serves, while also expanding beyond Norway’s borders for the first time with the Opening Oceans Conference (OOC) in Copenhagen in May.
Taangaard joined Nor-Shipping as Exhibition Director in 2015, contributing to the huge success of the 2017 event in Norges Varemesse’s Lillestrøm-based exhibition halls and across numerous venues in Oslo. In all, the event week attracted exhibitors from some 48 countries, with 31,500 exhibition delegates, 19 national pavilions and 220 events tailored to deliver lasting industry value.
Ocean solutions
With Nor-Shipping 2019 just over a year away (04 – 07 June 2019), the team has revealed both the theme for the programme, ‘ocean solutions’, and Nor-Shipping’s new tagline – ‘your arena for ocean solutions’.
“The growth in ocean industry activities represents clear opportunities for our core audience of maritime stakeholders and, because we exist to support and showcase their businesses, we want to help them seize on that potential,” Tanggaard notes.
“So we’ll be looking at how to connect them with new ocean business, ideas and partners, but also, and this is our fundamental mission, how to simply create the best arena to sell their maritime products, services and skills to the global market.

Opening Oceans Conference (OOC), Copenhagen 2-3 May 2018
In a further demonstration of Nor-Shipping’s development, Business Development Manager Sofia Furstenberg is spearheading the new Opening Oceans Conference (OOC), taking place in Copenhagen from 2-3 May 2018. This aims to attract a c-level audience to illustrate and discuss key ocean opportunities, equip delegates with the tools to tackle them, and facilitate fresh collaborations.
Speakers already signed up include OECD’s Claire Jolly, Head, Innovation Policies for Space and Oceans (IPSO) Unit, Bjørn Otto Sverdrup, Senior VP, Corporate Sustainability, Statoil, Peter Thomson, Special Envoy for the Ocean, United Nations and Vice CEO of Maersk Group, and CEO of Maersk Energy Division, Claus V. Hemmingsen.
Opening Oceans Conference is being organised in collaboration with both the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association and Danish Shipping.
